Maths learning app, built from scratch

The founder behind Thinkerly had a clear idea — an app for practising the maths heuristics at the heart of the Singapore primary curriculum — and no technical team to build it. We stepped in as fractional CPO/CTO: shaped the product, built it, shipped it, and kept iterating with real users.

The situation

Singapore primary maths runs on heuristics — model drawing, working backwards, guess-and-check. It's the part of the curriculum parents find hardest to help with, and the part where drilling an assessment book gives a child an answer key, not an explanation.

The founder behind Thinkerly saw the gap and had a clear product idea. What they didn't have: a technical co-founder, a dev team, or the appetite to bet a year of runway on hiring one before the idea was proven.

An idea isn't a spec

"An app for maths heuristics" still leaves every hard decision open — which heuristics, what a good attempt looks like, how feedback should read to a ten-year-old. That's product work, and it has to happen before the code.

Hiring is slow and expensive for an unproven idea

A full-time developer, let alone a team, is a big bet before a single user has touched the product. Most founders stall right here.
